Meet Alexandra Montfort

If you're preparing for OET Speaking, you already know how to care for patients. The challenge is showing that in a short conversation, in English, while the clock is running.

I'm Alexandra. I help doctors and nurses practice those conversations so they can listen, explain and respond as themselves — not recite a script.

How I came to this work

In 2024, a student I was teaching in English conversation asked me to practice OET Speaking role plays with her. I prepared for our next lesson, and that first session changed the direction of my teaching. I chose to focus on the conversations doctors and nurses have to manage in the test.

What stayed with me was how much those conversations depend on listening. When someone is worried or disagrees with you, a memorised phrase can only take you so far. I want to hear how you respond to the person in front of you.

What you can expect from me

I pay attention to what you already do well, then we choose a small number of things to work on. You should understand the reason for my feedback, not just leave with a list of corrections.

I listen first

We start with a role play from your profession. I listen to how you ask questions, respond to concerns and explain a plan before I suggest changes.

I explain why

If I suggest a different response, I explain what it changes in the conversation and how it relates to OET's published speaking criteria.

We keep it manageable

We focus on one or two priorities, then agree on what you can practice before the next session.

No script to memorise

You don't need to sound like a different person to do well in a role play. You need practice making your clinical knowledge clear, hearing what the other person is saying and deciding what to say next. That's the work we do together.
