OET Speaking FAQs

What score do I need on OET Speaking?

For UK NMC registration, OET Speaking, Listening and Reading each need at least Grade B (350), and Writing needs at least C+ (300). Other regulators set their own requirements; check the body you're registering with before relying on a score target.

How is OET Speaking assessed?

You complete two role plays with a trained interlocutor, based on realistic healthcare scenarios for your profession. The test is recorded and independently scored by two OET assessors against the official Linguistic Criteria and Clinical Communication Criteria.

Is OET Speaking coaching different from general English conversation practice?

Yes. You practice healthcare conversations based on the OET Speaking format and receive feedback against OET's published Linguistic and Clinical Communication Criteria.

Do you teach professions other than nursing and medicine?

My current focus is doctors and nurses. If you're preparing in another profession, get in touch and tell me what you need.

How do I get started?

Book a free first 30 minute session. Practice a role play with Alexandra and get feedback before deciding whether to book paid coaching.

Are sessions online and in English?

Yes. Coaching and the free first session are in English and take place online. The booking page shows available times in New York Eastern Time.

How do I book the free first session?

Choose an available time on the booking page and confirm it using the code sent to your email. The session lasts 30 minutes and includes speaking practice and feedback.

Will the free practice role plays be marked?

No. The free page has six original role plays, timed practice, optional recording and a checklist for reviewing your own response. It is not an official or scored OET test.
